Windfall Ecology Centre invites you to the FREE Windfall Ecology Festival on June 9 & 10, 2012.
The Windfall Ecology Festival:
- is open FREE of charge to the public
- is York Region’s largest Environmental & Energy Conservation Exposition which is a premier outdoor event where thousands of people enjoy:
- over 200 dynamic exhibits
- getting involved in workshops
- stimulating entertainment by performers
- and speakers who care about the environment
- fosters public awareness about opportunities for environmental change
- “spurs people to take the initiative in making their homes, businesses and communities more ecologically advanced and environmentally sound, while encouraging meaningful activation and participation”

RAIN: Rain Barrel Truck Sale & Design
- Saturday June 9th & Sunday June 10th, 10:00am – 4:00pm pick up
- Rain barrels are a great way for homeowners to elminate run-off by storing and reusing rain water on gardens and lawns
- The price is $50 per barrel if you pre-order, or $60 if not pre-ordered, and pick up will be at the festival with your receipt
- Once purchased, rain barrel owners are able to add some great design ideas with provided materials for FREE!
RAIN: Build your own Pet Waste Composter!
- Dogs (and other pets) have waste that is four times as toxic as humans.
- Pet owners can build and bury a pet waste composter below ground level, where the waste and harmful pathogens can completely break down in a contained area.
- Composter materials will be available for purchase at a nominal fee, or you may bring your own.
York Region Environmental Alliance: Shop like the Planet is Watching
- teaches you to become a savvy eco-shopper
- provides you with helpful tips on how to shop green, what to buy and what to look for when making a purchase
- also focuses on product labeling and what to look for on packaging
Solar 101 & Installation Demonstration
- is a first-hand look at how solar panels are installed on a residential roof
- Windfall Solar experts will:
- demonstrate the installation process
- explain the steps a homeowner can take to get their own rooftop solar PV system through the FIT program
