This is an update to my previous blog Mayor Ford’s Business Mission: September 2012 Renewal of 1991 Chicago-Toronto Partner City Agreement .

United States Ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson, has agreed to address business leaders from Toronto and Chicago during a luncheon that will take place on September 19, 2012, regarding:

  • The broader Canada-U.S. relationship while focusing in on how two of North America’s leading cities can act as catalysts for creating future opportunities
  • “Boundless potential of these two world-class cities”
  • “New and innovative ways to forge closer ties” between Toronto and Chicago
  • The all-encompassing perspective that:
    • The U.S.-Canada relationship is the deepest and most robust in the world.
    • U.S. and Canada are each other’s largest customer and partner in so many endeavours.
    • This relationship brings great benefits to Americans and Canadians alike.

The “Team Toronto” business mission will focus on:

  • forging strategic alliances
  • encouraging investment, trade and learning opportunities between Toronto and Chicago
  • Mayor Rob Ford and Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel reaffirm a renewed version of the 1991 Chicago-Toronto Partner City Agreement
  • a series of information and networking sessions with key Chicago business leaders

United States Ambassador to Canada will give keynote remarks at Toronto-Chicago Business Mission Luncheon

Chicago Business Mission Co-Chairs George Cohon, Founder, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada, and Robert Deluce, President and CEO of Porter Airlines, announced today that United States Ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson, has agreed to address business leaders from Toronto and Chicago during a luncheon that will take place on September 19, 2012.

“Ambassador Jacobson’s experience adds tremendous value for the participants from both delegations in this important business mission,” said Mr. Cohon. “His keen insights into the boundless potential of these two world-class cities will enlighten those seeking new and innovative ways to forge closer ties.”

“Ambassador Jacobson is the ideal person to put this business mission in perspective for everyone participating in both Toronto and Chicago,” said Mr. Deluce. “His current position allows him to highlight the broader Canada-U.S. relationship while focusing in on how two of North America’s leading cities can act as catalysts for creating future opportunities.”

Prior to becoming the Ambassador to Canada, Ambassador Jacobson served as the White House Special Assistant to the President for Presidential Personnel and as a corporate lawyer in Chicago. Ambassador Jacobson has focused on expanding Canadian-American trade and fostering shared values between the two countries.
