The City of Toronto’s City Planning Division and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) are planning an extension of Line 2 Bloor-Danforth north from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue.

The plan is for the Scarborough Subway Extension to be in operation by 2023.

  • The Municipal, Provincial and Federal Governments have each committed funding to make the extension a reality.

“After almost 30 years of service, the vehicles that run on the Scarborough Rapid Transit line (SRT) are reaching the end of their normal lifespan. An integrated and complementary new rapid transit system is required soon to continue to provide high quality transit that benefits the many users. The City of Toronto, together with the TTC, is beginning to plan an extension of the Bloor-Danforth Subway line to better serve Scarborough’s 650,000 residents.

The proposed Scarborough Subway Extension will consist of at least three new stations….

The City and the TTC are working together on a comprehensive assessment of the proposed extension to determine the route, station locations, construction methods and any steps required to maximize benefits and mitigate potential negative impacts. We anticipate this review will be done in mid 2016.“

Here are the three major objectives of the Scarborough Subway Project Assessment Study.

  1. Planning and preliminary engineering work will examine options and recommend an alignment for the subway.
  2. This will be followed by a formal Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP) to satisfy the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act.
  3. Once the TPAP is completed, the TTC will lead the detailed engineering design and construction phases of the project.

These objectives will be acheived in the following four phases of this study:

  • Phase 1 – Setting the Stage
  • Phase 2 – Choosing the Corridor
  • Phase 3 – Recommending the Alignment
  • Phase 4 – Final Review (TPAP)

 Phase 1 – Setting the Stage

The City and TTC are specifically looking for feedback at this time on:

  • Study Terms of Reference & Public Consultation Plan
  • Project objectives
  • Evaluation criteria
  • All reasonable station location and corridor options

You can provide your input into Phase 1 either online or at the upcoming consultations in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Upcoming Consultations

Interested parties and the public will have the opportunity to learn more about the study and provide feedback at the following two public meetings that will be held during Phase 1:
