For about 10 months, beginning on March 3 at 7 p.m., York Street, from north of Front Street to Piper Street, will be closed due to:
- Construction work to extend the PATH pedestrian tunnel network north from Union Station
- The work, which is being carried out in coordination with the Union Station Revitalization Project, will improve pedestrian access to and from Union Station
The partial closure of York Street will result in the following changes to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic:
- All northbound traffic on York Street will be redirected onto northbound University Avenue
-
The existing northbound curb lane closure on University Avenue, north of Front Street, will be removed when York Street closes on the evening of March 3
-
- Local access to York Street, north of Front Street, will be provided via a new eastbound lane that will be implemented on Wellington Street, between University Avenue and York Street
-
York Street will become a two-way street between Wellington Street and the construction zone north of Front Street to provide local access
-
- During the closure, pedestrian access will be maintained
-
However, some sidewalks and pedestrian pathways may need to be closed for safety reasons when work is taking place overhead
