Recently, Governments of Canada and Ontario, along with the Regional Municipality of York, celebrated the official opening of new affordable housing for individuals and families in York Region.

The event took place at Belinda’s Place, located at 16580 Yonge Street in Newmarket.
The facility provides 37 units for women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Governments of Canada and Ontario Celebrate New Affordable Housing in York Region

Newmarket, Ontario — The Governments of Canada and Ontario, along with the Regional Municipality of York, are celebrating the official opening of new affordable housing for individuals and families in York Region. The event took place at Belinda’s Place, located at 16580 Yonge Street in Newmarket. The facility provides 37 units for women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Kyle Peterson, Member of Parliament for Newmarket-Aurora, on behalf of Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), along with the Honourable Chris Ballard, Ontario’s Minister of Housing, Minister Responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy and Member of Provincial Parliament for Newmarket-Aurora, made the announcement today.

Quick Facts

The Belinda’s Place Foundation was formed in 2007 and, with the support of the community, raised $1 million.
Municipal contributions provided more than $7.6 million to the project.
The Governments of Canada and Ontario contributed more than $1.3 million to Belinda’s Place through the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement.
The event also celebrated the official opening of six additional new housing projects in York Region, which support a variety of people, including seniors, persons with disabilities and survivors of domestic violence:
- Richmond Hill Hub, which received $23.3 million for 202 total units of affordable housing in Richmond Hill for seniors, singles and small families with a mix of incomes, as well as transitional housing in the youth hub;
- Crescent Village Senior Housing Corporation, located at 138 Yorkland Street in Richmond Hill, which received $4.2 million for 28 units of affordable housing for seniors;
- DeafBlind Ontario Services at 22 St. George Street in Georgina, which received $640,428 for four units of affordable housing for residents with hearing and vision challenges;
- Lakeside Residences at 17 The Queensway in Keswick, which received $12.5 million in funding for 97 units of affordable housing;
- Hesperus Fellowship Village at 1 Hesperus in Vaughan, which received $4,2 for 60 units of affordable housing for seniors, residents with mental challenges and survivors of domestic violence; and,
- Kingsview Court at 90 Dew Street in King City, which received $4.7 million for 39 units of affordable housing for seniors.
