This video presents 1 of 7 Children live in Poverty in Canada.
In the following letter (Oct.15, 2014), the Make Poverty History Steering Committee is urging us to join them in calling for a Federal Anti-Poverty Plan:
“THIS FRIDAY, Canadians across the country are sounding the alarm and calling for a Federal Anti-Poverty Plan. Join us in asking the government for systemic change to eradicate poverty and hunger.
Canada has a hunger problem:
- 833,000 people in Canada visit the food banks each month
- 1 in 3 people who rely on food banks are children
- 1 in 8 people in Canada experience some level of food insecurity
We need a plan! The federal government controls income security payments, tax benefits, pensions, and the vital funding for provincial/territorial health and social service programs. Committees from the House of Commons, Senate, and the United Nations have all said that Canada needs a Federal Anti-Poverty Plan, and we agree!
Join ChewOnThis! and add your name to the thousands from coast-to-coast that want to see a Federal Anti-Poverty Plan.
In solidarity,
The Make Poverty History Steering Committee“
