Health Hazard Alert: Farquhar’s Orchards Fine Foods Brand Salmon Products are Recalled

Due to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) inspection activities, Farquhar’s Orchards Fine Foods is recalling Farquhar’s Orchards Fine Foods brand salmon products from the marketplace because they may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

  • Consumers should not consume the recalled products.

  • There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The other details of this recall are as follows.

  • These products have been sold in Ontario, Canada.
    • Please check to see if you have recalled products in your home.
    • Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the stores where they were purchased.
  • Recall Classification: Class 1.
    • Class 1 is a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

Please note that food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum may not look or smell spoiled:

  • In food borne botulism, symptoms generally begin 12 to 36 hours after eating a contaminated food, but they can occur as early as six hours or as late as 10 days.

Anyone who has consumed this product and experiences any of the symptoms described here should see a health care provider immediately and notify their local public health unit because death can occur in severe cases:

  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • fatigue
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • double vision
  • dry throat
  • respiratory failure
  • paralysis

Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits n’a été signalé.

Les aliments contaminés par la toxine de la bactérie Clostridium botulinum ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte, mais peuvent quand même vous rendre malade. Les symptômes possibles sont les suivants : nausées, vomissements, fatigue, étourdissements, vision brouillée ou trouble, bouche sèche, insuffisance respiratoire et paralysie. Dans les cas graves, la maladie peut causer la mort.

  • L’ACIA publie des mises en garde et envoie des avis par courriel sur les rappels d’aliments à risque élevé (principalement ceux de la classe I) lorsque le produit est en vente ou pourrait se trouver chez les consommateurs
