The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is working with the Canadian importers to remove certain Xan Confections brand Peanut Butter Chocolate products from the marketplace as the CFIA is warning the public not to consume the following Xan Confections brand Peanut Butter Chocolate products because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria:

The CFIA is working with the Canadian importers to remove the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

OTTAWA, le 12 octobre 2012 – L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) avise la population de ne pas consommer les produits de chocolat au beurre d’arachides de marque Xan Confections décrits ci-dessous. En effet, les produits visés pourraient être contaminés par la bactérie Salmonella.
Les produits suivants, de marque Xan Confections, sont visés par la présente mise en garde.

Les produits visés pourraient avoir été distribués à l’échelle nationale dans des magasins au détail et par le biais de l’Internet.
Les produits en vrac décrits ci-dessus ont été vendus sans mention de CUP ou de date de péremption. Les consommateurs qui ont acheté ces produits en vrac ou par Internet entre le 28 mai et le 11 octobre 2012 inclusivement devraient s’informer auprès du vendeur pour savoir si les produit achetés sont visés par la présente mise en garde.
L’ACIA collabore avec les importateurs canadiens pour retirer les produits visés du marché. L’ACIA surveille l’efficacité du rappel.
Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits n’a été signalé au Canada.
Les aliments contaminés par Salmonella ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d=aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut causer la salmonellose, une maladie d’origine alimentaire. Chez les jeunes enfants, les gens âgés et les personnes dont le système immunitaire est affaibli, la salmonellose peut causer des infections graves, parfois mortelles. Chez les personnes en bonne santé, la salmonellose peut se manifester par des symptômes de courte durée comme une forte fièvre, des maux de tête violents, des vomissements, des nausées, des douleurs abdominales et de la diarrhée. La salmonellose peut entraîner des complications à long terme comme une forme grave d’arthrite.
