Starbucks Coffee Canada Inc. (Toronto, Ontario) is warning the public not to consume the peanut butter product described below because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
The details regarding the recall of the affected product are as follows:
- The affected product is Justin’s brand Honey Peanut Butter Blend which is:
- a 0.5 oz pouch bearing:
- UPC 894455000391
- and a Best By date between 07-14-13 and 08-30-13

- This peanut butter pouch was incorporated in Starbucks brand Protein Bistro Box kits which are:
- 192 g packages bearing:
- UPC 7 62111 88794 8
- and a Best Before date from 12SE29 to 12OC07, inclusively
- 192 g packages bearing:
- The Starbucks Protein Bistro Boxes containing the affected peanut butter pouches were distributed nationally
- There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products
- The retailer, Starbucks Coffee Canada Inc. is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace
- Recall Classification: Class II
- is a situation in which the use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote

JUSTIN’S brand HONEY PEANUT BUTTER BLEND in STARBUCKS brand PROTEIN BISTRO BOX may contain Salmonella bacteria
OTTAWA, October 11, 2012 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Starbucks Coffee Canada Inc. are warning the public not to consume the peanut butter product described below because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The affected product, Justin’s brand Honey Peanut Butter Blend, is a 0.5 oz pouch bearing UPC 894455000391 and a Best By date between 07-14-13 and 08-30-13.
This peanut butter pouch was incorporated in Starbucks brand Protein Bistro Box kits, 192 g packages bearing UPC 7 62111 88794 8 and a Best Before date from 12SE29 to 12OC07, inclusively.
The Starbucks Protein Bistro Boxes containing the affected peanut butter pouches were distributed nationally.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
The retailer, Starbucks Coffee Canada Inc., Toronto, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

OTTAWA, le 11 octobre 2012 – L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) et Starbucks Coffee Canada Inc. avisent la population de ne pas consommer le produit de beurre d’arachides décrit ci-dessous. En effet, le produit visé pourrait être contaminé par la bactérie Salmonella.
Le produit visé, la tartinade de miel et de beurre d’arachides « Honey Peanut Butter Blend » de marque Justin’s, est emballée dans un sachet de 0,5 oz portant le CUP 894455000391 et une date de péremption entre le 07-14-13 et le 08-30-13.
Le sachet de beurre d’arachides est contenu dans les boîtes-repas « protéines BISTRO BOX » de marque Starbucks, vendues en emballages de 192 kg portant le CUP 7 62111 88794 8 et une date « meilleur avant » allant du 12SE29 à 12OC07 inclusivement.
Les boîtes-repas « protéines BISTRO BOX » contenant les sachets de produits de beurre d’arachides ont été distribuées à l’échelle nationale.
Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits n’a été signalé.
Les aliments contaminés par Salmonella ne présentent pas nécessairement d’altération visible ni d’odeur suspecte. La consommation d’aliments contaminés par cette bactérie peut causer la salmonellose, une maladie d’origine alimentaire. Chez les jeunes enfants, les gens âgés et les personnes dont le système immunitaire est affaibli, la salmonellose peut causer des infections graves, parfois mortelles. Chez les personnes en bonne santé, la salmonellose peut se manifester par des symptômes de courte durée comme une forte fièvre, des maux de tête violents, des vomissements, des nausées, des douleurs abdominales et de la diarrhée. La salmonellose peut entraîner des complications à long terme comme une forme grave d’arthrite.
Le détaillant, Starbuck Coffee Canada Inc., de Toronto (Ontario), retire volontairement du marché le produit visé. L’ACIA surveille l’efficacité du rappel.
