Complete List of Toronto City Services’ Hours During the Holiday Season

City of Toronto Season’s Greetings and Holiday Hours

City of Toronto (Ontario, Canada) offices will be closed on Monday, December 27 and Tuesday, December 28, and also on Monday, January 3, 2011. All City emergency services and 24-hour operations will be provided during the holiday season.

Residents can call 311, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for more information about City services.

A list of which City services will be open and closed during the holidays follows.

City services during the holiday season:

Toronto Transit Commission

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) system will operate on a holiday
schedule on the following dates:
● Saturday, December 25 – Sunday service. Subway and most routes will start at 9 a.m.
● Sunday, December 26 – Sunday service. Subway and most routes will start at 9 a.m.
● Monday, December 27 – Holiday service. Subway and most routes will start at 6 a.m.
● Tuesday, December 28 to Thursday, December 30 – Monday through Friday service
● Friday, December 31 – Monday through to Friday service, with reduced peak service from 12 to 5 p.m. Service will run until 4 a.m. after New Year’s Eve and will be free to all riders after midnight.
● Saturday, January 1 – Sunday service. Subway and most routes will start at 9 a.m.
● Sunday, January 2 – Sunday service. Subway and most routes will start at 9 a.m.

Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation

The City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation division offers holiday hours for outdoor rinks, indoor skate, ski and swim programs from December 20 to January 3.

Skate:
Skating programs at indoor arenas and outdoor artificial ice rinks are free for all ages, and offer a variety of programs including leisure skate and shinny hockey. Schedules vary by location throughout the holidays.

Ski:
The City’s two ski and snowboard centres, at Earl Bales Park and Centennial Park, are open with  operating hours every day throughout the holidays, with the exception of December 25.

Swim:
A variety of leisure swim programs are available at pools throughout the city. Schedules vary by location.

Community centres:
Operating schedules vary by location. Speak with facility staff at your location or call 311 before heading out. General operating hours are as follows:
• December  24 and 31: Centres close at 4 p.m.; some exceptions may apply – please call ahead
• December 25, 26, 27 and 28: Centres are closed, with the exception of those offering registered holiday camps or special holiday drop-in programs.
• January 1: Centres are closed.
• January 2: Centres are open for regular hours; some exceptions may apply. Please call ahead.
• January 3: Centres are closed with the exception of those offering registered holiday camps or special holiday drop-in programs.

Historic sites and museums

The City of Toronto’s historic sites/museums will be open during the holiday period and will be offering a mixture of regular and special programming for all ages to enjoy. Details follow.

Colborne Lodge in High Park (Colborne Lodge Drive) is presenting “Christmas in the Park” until January 2. Colborne Lodge will be open from December 28 to 30 from noon to 4 p.m. and on January 2, from noon to 4 p.m. Colborne Lodge will close at 3 p.m. on December 24 and 31, and will be closed on December 25, 26 and 27 and January 1.

Fork York National Historical Site (250 Fort York Blvd.) will host the Lieutenant Governor’s New Year’s Levee on Saturday January 1, from noon to 2 p.m. Fort York will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day. Prior to January 1 (from December 24 to 31), Fort York will be closed. On January 2, Fort York will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mackenzie House (82 Bond St.) is presenting “A Victorian Toronto Christmas” until January 2. Mackenzie House will be open from December 28 to 30 from noon to 4 p.m., and January 2 from noon to 5 p.m. Mackenzie House will close at 3 p.m. on December 24 and 31, and will be closed on December 25, 26 and 27 and January 1.

Spadina Museum (285 Spadina Rd.) is presenting “A Roaring 1920s Christmas” until January 2. Spadina Museum will be open from December 28 to 30 from noon to 4 p.m. and on January 2 from noon to 5 p.m. Spadina Museum will close at 3 p.m. on December 24 and 31 and will be closed on December 25, 26 and 27 and January 1.

Todmorden Mills Heritage Site (67 Pottery Rd.) is hosting “A Regency Christmas in the Valley” on December 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; December 28 to 30 from noon to 4 p.m.; December 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and January 2 from noon to 4 p.m. The Todmorden Mills Heritage Site will be closed on December 25, 26 and 27 and January 1.

Montgomery’s Inn (4709 Dundas St. W. at Islington Avenue) will be open from December 29 to 30 from noon to 5 p.m. and on January 2, from noon to 5 p.m. Montgomery’s Inn will be closed on December 24, 25, 26 and 27 and January 1.

Scarborough Museum (1007 Brimley Rd.) will be open from December 28 to 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on January 2, from noon to 4 p.m. The museum will be closed on December 24, 25, 26 and 27 and January 1.

Gibson House (5172 Yonge St.) will be open on December 28 to 31 from noon to 5 p.m and on January 2 the museum will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Gibson House will close on December 24, 25, 26 and 27.

Solid Waste Management

The City’s residential garbage, recycling and organics collection will proceed as usual during the holidays.

Toronto Animal Services

Holiday hours for the City’s Animal Services shelters:
• December 24 and 31 – 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (adoptions until 4 p.m.)
• December 25 and 26 – closed
• December 27 to 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• January 1 – closed

Residents who require pet licences or need to pay renewals should note that the Toronto Animal Services office at 35 Spadina Rd. will be closed on December 27, December 28 and January 3.

Long-term Care Homes & Services

The adult day program at Wesburn Manor will be closed on December 24 and December 27, and the adult day programs at Cummer Lodge, Bendale Acres and Kipling Acres will be closed on December 27.

City Child Care Centres

City child care centres will follow normal operating hours during the holidays.

Toronto Public Library

Toronto Public Library branches are closed on the following days:
• December 24 and 31- branches will close at 1 p.m.
• December 25, 26 and 27 – closed
• January 1  and 2 – closed
