We are extremely delighted to get Rick E.’s comments and his choice of Harriet Tubman. To celebrate Black History/Heritage Month, Harriet Tubman receives our recognition and admiration as a tribute to her awesome inspiration and incredible passion for freedom and for helping people.
Harriet Tubman:
- about 1820 – March 10, 1913
- Harriet Tubman was born as a slave in Maryland, but escaped to freedom
- Harriet Tubman was known as the Moses of the Underground Railroad because she led more than 70 slaves to the North and to Canada to their freedom
- Harriet Tubman spoke against slavery
- Harriet Tubman also spoke for the rights of women and African Americans
- was a nurse, scout, spy and soldier in the U.S. Army in South Carolina; and as the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war, she guided the raid on the Combahee River, which freed more than 700 slaves during the Civil War
- set up a home for very poor, aged African Americans
- Harriet Tubman expressed her love and gratitude for her new found freedom with these passionate words:
“I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person: Now I was free. There was such a glory over everything. The sun came up like gold through the trees, and over the fields, and I felt like I was in heaven.”
- She also inspired people to go above and beyond as follows:
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
Thanks to Rick E., Harriet Tubman is now our 5th passionate heart on our Passionate Hearts List.
