NEWS RELEASE
TTC service changes starting Sunday August 31
August 28, 2014
The Toronto Transit Commission is making service increases and reliability improvements on many busy routes starting Sunday, August 31. These changes are designed to respond to increasing ridership, and to improve the reliability of TTC service.
The TTC’s new, low-floor streetcar will make its Toronto debut on August 31, on the 510 Spadina route. Proof-of-payment on the 510 line, on both the new streetcars and the current streetcars, also takes effect Sunday. Proof-of-payment has been in effect on the 501 Queen for several years. The 504 King and 505 Dundas streetcars will resume normal service to Broadview Station, following the completion of track and overhead wire upgrades on Broadview Ave.
Buses will replace streetcars on the 501 Queen, 301 Queen and 508 Lake Shore west of Humber Loop due to City of Toronto construction on the Gardiner Expressway. Access to the TTC’s Humber Loop will be restricted, requiring the temporary closure of the pedestrian tunnel between Humber Loop and Lake Shore Blvd. W. To accommodate customers who normally use the pedestrian tunnel, a special 501M Queen replacement bus will operate between Humber Loop and Marine Parade Dr.
A new 198 U of T Scarborough Rocket limited stop express route will be introduced, operating between Kennedy Station and the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. Buses will operate along Eglinton Ave., Kingston Rd., Morningside Ave., Ellesmere Rd. and Military Trail. This new service will operate during peak periods, midday and early evening Monday to Friday.
