Doors Open Toronto

On May 24 & 25, the 15th annual Doors Open Toronto will offer FREE access to 155 architecturally, historically, culturally and socially significant buildings across the city.

  • The theme for this year’s event is Secrets and Spirits … Exploring the Mysteries Behind the Door.
  • Doors Open Toronto is dedicated to built heritage, architecture and design, attracting more than two million visits to nearly 600 locations throughout Toronto since its inception (2000).
  • It is Canada’s largest Doors Open event and one of the three largest Doors Open events in the world.

Here are some highlights of Doors Open Toronto.

  • Secret spaces and stories exist all over Toronto, such as:
    • an underground bowling alley in a downtown church,
    • secret tomb in another church,
    • hidden nooks and crannies in the buildings at the University of Toronto,
    • tunnels beneath a school,
    • bank vaults in a hotel,
    • unexplained mysteries at more than 75 locations, and
    • art exhibits at various secret spaces across the city.
  • FREE Architectural and walking tours.
  • FREE Doors Open Speakers Series on current topics in design and architecture.
  • More than 40 new participants in the 2014 building lineup representative of this year’s theme.

This spring’s Doors Open Toronto to explore secrets and spirits of Toronto sites

Doors Open Toronto presented by Great Gulf will return on the weekend of May 24 and 25, offering free, rare access to more than 155 architecturally, historically, culturally and socially significant buildings across Toronto.

This year’s event will give residents and visitors an opportunity to explore Toronto’s sites through the theme Secrets and Spirits… Exploring the Mysteries Behind the Door.

This year’s theme will highlight secret spaces, stories of spirit sightings and unexplained mysteries at more than 75 locations, including an underground bowling alley in a downtown church, a secret tomb in another church, haunted tunnels beneath a school and bank vaults in a hotel.

Other offerings in this year’s Doors Open Toronto will include the Doors Open Speakers Series on current topics in design and architecture, art exhibits, the addition of more than 40 new participants in the 2014 building lineup, and free architectural and “ghostly” walking tours.

Walking tours representative of this year’s secret and spirits theme will include:
– The Ghosts and Spirits of the Historic Distillery District
– The Spirit of the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse at Toronto harbour, and
– The Spirits of Exhibition Place, including paranormal hotspots.
