The following video presents “Watch the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games LIVE.”
In addition to covering both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies live from Sochi in HD, the IPC website will feature four HD channels showing live and uninterrupted daily coverage of alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, ice sledge hockey and wheelchair curling. A fifth HD channel will broadcast a mixture of all sports and all five channels will feature English commentary.
Following the conclusion of competition each day, all the sporting action including individual matches from ice sledge hockey and wheelchair curling, will be made available as video on demand via the IPC’s YouTube channel ParalympicSport.TV. Highlights packages from each sport will also be made available.
Supporting the live and on-demand video streams will be live results, whilst a team of writers will produce daily in-depth previews and reviews of all five sports, together with interviews with leading athletes. It is estimated around 150 stories will be uploaded to the IPC’s website during the Games.

Ontario Para-Athletes on Their Way to Sochi
Talented Ontario Athletes Compete at 2014 Paralympic Winter Games

Ontario is proud to support its athletes competing on behalf of Team Canada at the 11th Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
This year, 21 Ontario athletes and one guide will inspire the nation, as they compete for Paralympic gold in para-alpine skiing, biathlon, para-nordic skiing, sledge hockey, wheelchair curling and para-snowboard — which will make its Paralympic debut. The province’s talented athletes at the Winter Paralympic Games include:
- Chris Williamson from Markham, one of the world’s most decorated para-alpine athletes with silver and bronze medals from the 2002 and 2006 Paralympics.
- Graeme Murray from Barrie, who was part of the sledge hockey team that won gold at the 2006 Paralympics and the 2013 World Championships.
- Jim Armstrong from Cambridge, the gold medal winner at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympic Games for wheelchair curling.
- Robbi Weldon, a para-nordic skier from Thunder Bay, who won gold as a para-cyclist at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
- Thirteen of the 17 para-athletes on the sledge hockey team are from Ontario including Brad Bowden, Billy Bridges, Ben Delaney, Adam Dixon, Marc Dorion, Anthony Gale, Karl Ludwig, Tyler McGregor, Graeme Murray, Kevin Rempel, Corbin Watson, Greg Westlake, and Derek Whitson.
The province supports its para-athletes year round with direct financial assistance through programs like Quest for Gold, and celebrates athletic achievement through recognition programs like the Ontario Sport Awards. Ontario also assists provincial and local sport organizations to ensure that para-athletes have the tools they need to succeed at the highest levels of competition, including the Winter Paralympic Games.
Helping athletes compete and win is part of the government’s plan to work together as One Ontario, to build a successful, vital province where everyone has the opportunity to connect, contribute and achieve their goals.

- Sports like cross country and alpine skiing are typically solitary pursuits, but when it involves athletes with a visual impairment, they are paired with a guide to assist as they compete. They are considered a team, and both athletes are medal candidates.
- Since 2006, Quest for Gold has provided Ontario athletes and coaches with over $80 million in support.
- The province has nearly tripled support for amateur sport from $8.78 million in 2003 to more than $23 million in 2013-14.
- Ontario will host the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan American Games which will be an opportunity to showcase the province to an international audience of 250,000 visitors and 10,000 athletes and officials.
