Singing Contest to Launch City of Toronto’s United Way Employee Campaign
Tomorrow, September 10 from noon to 2 p.m., the City of Toronto will launch its annual employee fundraising drive for the United Way of Toronto by announcing its fundraising goal and holding a singing competition on Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen St. W.
- The singing contest will feature singers from the following five municipal sector organizations:
- City of Toronto,
- Toronto Hydro,
- Toronto Community Housing,
- Toronto Police Services
- and Toronto Transit Commission.
- Local personality Enza Anderson will host the competition.
- Judges will include G-98.7 FM morning hosts Mark and Jem and former contest winner Shelly Costa.
Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s Town Hall Meeting Postponed to September 19

- A Town Hall meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, September 12, regarding a request to permit jet airplanes at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Centre Airport (BBTCA) has been changed to:
Thursday, September 19
Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place, 100 Princes’ Blvd., salon 105
6 to 7 p.m. (drop-in)
7 to 9 p.m. (presentations and discussion)
- The reason for the postponement is that, at a previously held workshop, Toronto residents asked for more time to review the consultants’ technical reports and various related materials.
- An update report by City staff on this matter for the September 24 meeting of Executive Committee is available online (pdf) at http://bitly.com/169GKq9.
- Porter Airlines and the Toronto Port Authority (TPA) will attend the September 19 Town Hall meeting.

Date change of Town Hall meeting on the use of jets at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
A Town Hall meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, September 12 regarding a request to permit jet airplanes at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Centre Airport (BBTCA) has been changed to:
Thursday, September 19

6 to 7 p.m. (drop-in)
7 to 9 p.m. (presentations and discussion)
The focus of the public consultation process is to assess how changes to the airport would impact Toronto, including the ongoing revitalization of the waterfront and nearby communities on the water’s edge. Specific issues being considered in the consultation sessions include:
– Aviation – noise, safety and infrastructure
– Economic impacts
– Land use and community impacts
– Marine navigation, coastal and habitat assessments
– Public health impacts
– Transportation impacts.
At a previously held workshop, Toronto residents asked for more time to review the consultants’ technical reports and various related materials. In response to that request, the City is moving the date of the Town Hall meeting. The City has also invited Porter Airlines and the Toronto Port Authority (TPA) to attend the September 19 Town Hall meeting. An update report for Executive Committee later this month will also be available at the Town Hall meeting.
