As part of the City’s Clean Toronto Together campaign to keep Toronto streets clean and free of litter, posters and graffiti vandalism, StreetArt Toronto (StART) initiative will counteract the latter via “developing, supporting, promoting and increasing awareness of street art and its role to add beauty and character to neighbourhoods across the city.”

Street art is art, specifically visual art, developed for public spaces.

City of Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 485, Graffiti allows for regularization of an art mural or graffiti art when it is installed with the property owner’s permission, adheres to community character and standards, and aesthetically enhances the surface that it covers.

- The City of Toronto’s StreetARToronto (StART) Artist Directory is a database of artists specializing in large and small street art.
- StreetARToronto (StART) Artist Directory is now available to connect businesses and private property owners with more than 30 artists.

Artists are encouraged to submit their profile to join the StART Artist Database.

StART Partnership Program provides up to $30,000 in funding for partnership projects that meet the following objectives:
- Enhance and promote City of Toronto’s vibrant street and graffiti art.

Projects must be located on City-owned land or a publicly accessible area on private property, with maximum street visibility and neighbourhood impact.

Written authorization from the private property owner is required.

- Revitalize and engage communities.
- Counteract graffiti vandalism.
- Engage emerging and established local artists through street and mural art.

Applicants must be incorporated non-profit or charitable organizations operating in the City of Toronto.

Individual artists and artist collectives are encouraged to apply through a not-for-profit sponsor.

Funds from StART can only be used for artists that are City of Toronto residents, though collaboration with local, national or international artists is permitted.

Queen St. & York St. Closures June 29 – July 16
- This is an update to my previous blog TTC Diverts Two Streetcars June 29-July 15 + Toronto’s Heat Alert of June 23, 2013 is Terminated.
- Due to streetcar track reconstruction and road work, Queen Street from University Avenue to just east of York Street in downtown Toronto will be closed to eastbound traffic from Saturday, June 29 at 6 a.m. to Tuesday, July 16 at 6 p.m.

Westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane for the duration of the project.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Alternative eastbound routes for motorists include Adelaide Street, King Street and Dundas Street.

- In addition, York Street will be closed in both directions from Richmond Street to Queen Street during the same two-week period.

Alternative northbound routes that could be considered are Bay Street and University Avenue.

- Also, the City of Toronto has introduced T.O. INview, a map-based application showing planned capital construction work across the city.

Queen Street closed to eastbound traffic for two weeks from University Avenue to York Street
Queen Street from University Avenue to just east of York Street in downtown Toronto will be closed to eastbound traffic from Saturday, June 29 at 6 a.m. to Tuesday, July 16 at 6 p.m. for streetcar track reconstruction and road work.
Westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane for the duration of the project. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
In addition, York Street will be closed in both directions from Richmond Street to Queen Street during the same two-week period.
