“Come and enjoy a great show presented by the Little Red Theatre and specially made for children !
Meet Babar, who will tell you his greatest stories and make your children dream of wonderful and crazy adventures ! Babar by Jean De Brunhoff tells the story of a young elephant who leaves the jungle, visits a big city and returns to the jungle to share his successes and discoveries with the other elephants. He becomes a king, has children Pom, Flora, Alexander and Isabel and teaches them all his valuable lessons.
The Little Red Theatre is from Toronto and has been presenting children’s theatre performances all over Ontario for 23 years. They play for about 70,000 kids every year and keep dreaming up new places to visit. This past year they have carried our little red seed to about 225 schools in over the course of the year offering their shows to students from JK – 5.”

Babar, c’est le célèbre Roi des éléphants ! Les membres de sa petite famille, Pom, Flore, Alexandre et Isabelle, se regroupent autour de lui et l’implorent de tout leur raconter sur ses aventures passées. Nous le suivons de l’enfance à l’âge adulte alors qu’il apprend la vie, son devoir de roi et celui de père.
Ouf ! Ce n’est pas une tâche facile ! Babar est né de l’imagination de Cécile, la femme de Jean de Brunhoff, un soir d’été en 1930. Les aventures entraînantes et amusantes de l’éléphant-roi présentent une panoplies d’histoires drôlement colorées dans lesquelles les enfants peuvent se reconnaître et qui les accompagnent et les aident dans leur développement.
En partenariat avec l’Alliance Française de Toronto, le Little Red theatre vous présente un spectacle exceptionnel qui réjouira vos enfants ! Le Little Red Theatre est une troupe de comédiens spécialisée dans les spectacles pour enfants. Originaires de Toronto, ils jouent pour plus de 70 000 enfants par an, et font rêver, rire, réfléchir les enfants de plus de 200 écoles.”

L’instant et l’instantané presents a series of portraits of Toronto-based and visiting jazz musicians. The show’s opening will begin with a screening of Toronto Vertigo, a short film made in 2011, in which a trip through the city is punctuated by the tune of « Jungle Jazz ». This film was presented at TIFF and the Festival Nouveau Film de Montréal in 2011. Both his photographs and the short film were made for Mikel’s blog, www.torontojazzblog.ca, a project born a year ago in partnership with Toronto-based jazz singer Samantha Clayton.
Mikel Mata’s approach to photography aims to bring together the French and English-speaking jazz communities, both in Toronto and across Canada, through the publication of a bilingual book of portraits of musicians from Vancouver to Halifax.
Miguel MATA is a Franco-Hispanic photographer and film maker who was born in Paris in the 1960’s. After working in fashion, making portraits and working as a photographer on film sets, Mikel embarked on a new career as a photojournalist, focusing on the nomadic peoples of the world, which led him to travel through four continents. Over the past 20 years, Mikel’s photographs were published in various magazines and books, and he has worked with many international organizations and private foundations. On several occasions, he was invited as an artist by the University of Jacksonville, in Florida.

L’instant et l’instantané propose une galerie de portraits de musiciens de jazz établis à Toronto ou de passage en ville. En ouverture du vernissage, Mikel projettera Toronto Vertigo, un court-métrage réalisé en 2011, qui rythme la ville sur l’air de « Jungle Jazz » (présenté au TIFF et au Festival Nouveau Film de Montréal en 2011). Ces photographies et ce court-métrage ont été réalisés dans le cadre du www.torontojazzblog.ca, un projet né il y a un an en collaboration avec Samantha Clayton, chanteuse de jazz torontoise.
La démarche photographique de Mikel Mata vise à fusionner les deux communautés du jazz – francophone et anglophone – en particulier à Toronto, voire à l’échelle du pays, au travers de la publication d’un livre bilingue réunissant les musiciens de Vancouver à Halifax sous l’enseigne du jazz.
Mikel MATA est un photographe et réalisateur franco-espagnol né à Paris dans les années 1960. Il a d’abord évolué dans le domaine de la mode, réalisé des portraits et travaillé comme photographe de plateau de cinéma avant de commencer une carrière de photojournalisme spécialisé sur les peuples nomades. Ces projets l’on amené à parcourir quatre continents. Depuis vingt ans, Mikel a été publié dans divers magazines et ouvrages en Europe, en plus d’avoir travaillé pour des organisations internationales et des fondations privées. Il a été aussi invité à plusieurs reprises comme artiste par l’université de Jacksonville en Floride.

Paul Cohen, Associate Professor of History will suggest in this conference to reflect on the importance and specificity of linguistic mediation in the history of the French presence in North America.
The participation of France in the Atlantic world taking shape between the 16th and 17th centuries opens new prospects for trade, the spread of the Catholic faith, and colonial conquest, but it creates new problems of communication.
In societies that are increasingly cosmopolitan of the modern Americas, as well in the spheres of influence of France as outside, the imperatives of the colonial administration, Christian evangelism, the commercial exchange and social interaction all make the ability to communicate in a multilingual environment a crucial skill.

Paul Cohen, professeur agrégé d’histoire vous proposera dans cette conférence de réfléchir sur l’importance et la spécificité de la médiation linguistique dans l’histoire de la présence française en Amérique du nord.
La participation de la France au monde atlantique qui prend forme entre le 16e et le 17e siècles ouvre de nouvelles perspectives pour le commerce, la dissémination de la foi catholique, et les conquêtes coloniales, mais elle engendre de nouveaux problèmes de communication.
Dans les sociétés de plus en plus cosmopolites des Amériques modernes, aussi bien dans les sphères d’influence de la France que en dehors, les impératifs de l’administration coloniale, l’évangélisation chrétienne, l’échange commercial et l’interaction sociale tous font de la capacité de communiquer dans un environnement plurilingue une compétence cruciale.
