E-Nominate Canadians in Ontario for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medals

Statement By Ontario Premier McGuinty On Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee is given here:

Canada is a constitutional monarchy.

Congratulations to Her Majesty The Queen on her Diamond Jubilee.

2012 is the Diamond Jubilee Year wherein Canada celebrates the Diamond Jubilee of our head of state, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Diamond Jubilee marks the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne.

Ontarians will join the celebration of Her Majesty’s lifetime of service when The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall come to Ontario this May. It will be the highlight of Ontario’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Nominations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal is now open:

• The medal will be awarded to those Ontarians who have shared their time and talents with their communities.

• Any Ontarian can use the e-nomination form to nominate a deserving Ontarian.

• The nomination period ends on April 30, 2012.

• Over 2,000 Ontarians will receive a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Did You Know?

• The Diamond Jubilee Medal will be awarded to Canadians who have made significant contributions to their communities and nation or who have made achievements abroad that bring credit to Canada.

• The Diamond Jubilee Medal Program is administered by the Office of the Governor General of Canada.

Here are various ways you can celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee:

• You can download the official Crown in Canada iPhone application for free.

• Blackberry and other mobile platform users can access The Crown in Canada content that is optimized for mobile use at m.CanadianCrown.gc.ca.

• You can get the Diamond Jubilee Stamps at Canada Post.

• In honour of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, an updated edition of A Crown of Maples and a teacher’s guide will be issued in the spring of 2012. A Crown of Maples is a publication available in French or English on the history of the Crown, its current role, and its symbolic importance in Canada.
