Wishing our readers a better, healthier, and Happier New Year 2012!
It’s been an amazing year!
Thank you for your marvellous help; together we had accomplished so much as well as made great differences as follows:
- Please Request an Environmental Assessment on Ontario’s Mega Quarry Before July 11, 2011:
- Here is the Minister of the Environment’s recent reply to the petitions of more than 132,000 Canadians:
As a result the company will be required to undertake a comprehensive Environmental Assessment for the proposed quarry in Melancthon Township.
Minister of the Environment John Wilkinson
- 36 Hours to Save Our Dying Planet: Please Petition Our Leaders to Stand Up to Big Oil!
- “Despite massive pressure by oil-backed planet killers like the US and Canada a deal was struck to save the vital Kyoto Protocol and give us a fighting chance by keeping climate negotiations alive,” stated Ricken, Dalia, Luis, Allison, Ari, Maria Paz, Wen-Hua and the entire Avaaz team.
- EU Climate Chief Connie Hedegaard said: “Thanks to the over 800,000 people from around the world — your voices made a vital impact at the end of the talks.”
- Save the Internet Campaign Pressure is Working: Help Us Reach 1 Million Signers!
- In days, over 1 million of us worldwide signed a petition opposing a scandalous bill that would give the US government the right to shut down any website — targeting sites like WikiLeaks, YouTube, even Avaaz!
- President Obama’s team responded, and Avaaz organized a 1 hour meeting with top White House officials to deliver the petition:
We’ve now been told privately that Obama is likely to oppose the bill as it stands. When we started, insiders all told us the bill could not be stopped, now they’re all telling us the bill may soon be dead in its current form — that’s people power!
Ricken, Dalia, Luis, Allison, Ari, Maria Paz, Wen-Hua and the entire Avaaz team
We stand together and Say:
- Please Urge the Provincial Government to Add $100 Healthy Food Supplement Now to Canadians’ Social Assistance Cheques
- The government has created its Social Assistance Reviewto evaluate the true cost of living in communities across Ontario
- They appointed the Commission for the Review of Social Assistance in Ontario.
- On November 30, 2010, the government announced the Social Assistance Review.
- The review began in January 2011 and will finish in June 2012.
- “Once the second round of consultation is complete and all the feedback is in, the Commission is supposed to release a final set of recommendations for how to change OW (Ontario Works) and ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program) by July 2012.”
- The government has created its Social Assistance Reviewto evaluate the true cost of living in communities across Ontario
Regarding the latter blog, only time will tell if our government will care to end both the widespread food insecurity crisis and the increase in chronic illness related to poor nutrition for Canadians in Ontario.
In the meantime, Canadians living in deep poverty cannot afford to wait any longer to have a place to live and enough money to purchase healthy food.
Please sign the PUT FOOD IN THE BUDGET petition and send this petition along to your friends, family members and colleagues.
At the present time of this blog, we have less than 500 signatures.
10,000 signatures, however, are required to send a strong message to our provincial government, the Social Assistance Review Team and the Commission for the Review of Social Assistance in Ontario.
Please click here to sign the petition and help us reach 10,000 signatures.
Have a Better, Healthier and Happier New Year!
