Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown Construction: New Transit & Jobs for Canadians

The Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown is one of the largest transit expansion projects in North America today — and it’s happening right here in Toronto as shown in this video:

TTC and Metrolinx, a provincial Crown agency, are bringing new transit to Toronto – starting with the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown line.

Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown project is funded by the Province of Ontario through Metrolinx.

The commuting benefits of Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown line include:

  • Rapid transit across the Eglinton corridor, linking subway lines and replacing the Scarborough RT (Rapid Transit line)
    • 25km line will run underground from Jane/Black Creek Drive to Kennedy Station,
    • then on a structure partially elevated and completely separated from traffic between Kennedy Station and Scarborough City Centre
    • Give commuters a new east-to-west link across Toronto and will easily connect them to subways, buses and the GO Transit network
    • Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown line will include up to 26 stations and is expected to be in service in 2020
  • Providing one seamless trip across the City from Black Creek Drive to Scarborough City Centre with no need for a transfer
  • Crosstown will move people across town 60 per cent faster than the bus service on the Eglinton corridor today
  • Reducing travel times

McGuinty Government Creating Thousands Of Jobs, Improving Public Transit

Construction on the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown line is officially underway and is expected to reduce travel times and help create tens of thousands of jobs.

The new line will help keep the city moving by running about 25 kilometres mostly underground along Eglinton Avenue from Black Creek Drive to Kennedy Station. It will be partially elevated between Kennedy Station and Scarborough City Centre.

The Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown line will include up to 26 stations and is expected to be in service in 2020.

Ontario is working to grow the economy of the future by creating good jobs for families in the face of global economic uncertainty.

Building better public transit is part of the McGuinty government’s plan to create and support jobs for Ontario families while securing Ontario’s future in the new global economy.
