Four PhotoSensitive Exhibitions of Canadians & Social Issues

In Toronto, Ontario, Canada, “Photosensitive projects focus on realities with which North Americans are familiar, including poverty, hunger, illness, racism, ignorance, injustice. But it concentrates, too, on their antidotes: the hope found in the face of adversity, the laughter and love that make the difficulties of life tolerable, the simple pleasures that lighten dark lives. The photographers use the camera’s ability to tell a story, make social comment, and spur viewers to action.“

Photosensitive’s “idea was to bring together the photographic talents of a number of Toronto-based professional photographers, to harness the power of the camera to achieve social goals.“

FIELD OF VISION TO SHOW IN PETERBOROUGH

“PhotoSensitive’s 20th anniversary exhibition, Field of Vision, will be showing in Peterborough, Ontario, November 14-15 at the 2011 Philanthropy Forum.

The Forum, organized by the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, provides interactive sessions, breakthrough thinking and a celebration of philanthropy.

PhotoSensitive founding photographer, Andrew Stawicki, will be delivering a talk about PhotoSensitive and social change, chronicling over 20 years of PhotoSensitive projects.

THE FUEL OF LIFE (formerly called The Energy Project)

PhotoSensitive’s free exhibition, The Fuel of Life (formerly called The Energy Project), is due to launch at Brookfield Place, Toronto, on November 28 at 6.30pm.

The exhibition, produced in partnership with the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association, had a sneak peak appearance in Europe this month.

TIEd TOGETHER LAUNCHES IN OCTOBER

Over 100 photos displayed on 40 panels.

On Tuesday, October 11, TIEd Together was launched in Halifax, Nova Scotia during Prostate Cancer Canada’s annual conference.

With over 100 images and stories of prostate cancer survivors and their families, TIEd Together sheds a personal light on how Canadian men are affected by the disease.

The free exhibition of TIEd Together will be showing next in Toronto at Brookfield Place from January 9 – 20, 2012.

To coincide with the launch of TIEd Together in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the exhibition website now carries all of the portraits of prostate cancer survivors from across Canada.

Those photos, as well as videos of 10 prostate cancer survivors, will be available to view on a 32″ touchscreen when the show opens in Toronto on January 9, 2012.

In the videos, men discuss the impact that prostate cancer has had on their lives, how they made it through the treatment, how it has affected their personal lives and how they are feeling now.

The videos will also be posted to the TIEd Together website to coincide with the Toronto opening.
