Have you heard of the ‘move over’ law ?
The ‘move over’ law requires drivers to:
- slow down and proceed with caution when passing an emergency vehicle (police, fire or ambulance) parked on the side of the highway with its lights activated
- move over a lane, if the highway has more than one lane
- pay a fine for breaking the “move over” law, which ranges from $400 to $2,000
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Canada are on the highways, especially during this Civic long weekend (August 1 is a Civic holiday), to enforce the “move over law.”
