The City of Toronto (in Ontario, Canada) encourages you to take public transit as a greener, faster and more affordable way of getting to your destinations, especially during Toronto’s five events with road closures from June 17 to June 20.

Come out and enjoy the following five special events in Toronto accompanied by these road closures:

Highland Creek Heritage Festival and Parade

Highland Creek Heritage Festival is in its 26th year as an annual community festival for the eastern communities of Scarborough.

The Festival receives financial and other support from the community associations of Highland Creek, Centennial Community, and West Rouge, Highland Creek Plaza, R.C.L. Br. 258, Councillor Ron Moeser and the City of Toronto, West Hill – Highland Creek Lions Club, and numerous local businesses.

Here are the details of the Highland Creek Heritage Festival and Parade:

• Parade starts at 11:00 a.m.

• Parade Route: From Centennial Road Public School, west on Lawson, across Bridge, and into the Village to Watson.

Saturday Road Closures:

• Old Kingston Road from Kingston Road to Watson Road and Morrish Road from Kingston Road to Bush Gate will be closed on Saturday, June 18 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

• To accommodate the parade, Centennial Road will be closed from Cherrydale Court to Lawson Road from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• The parade route will begin on Centennial Road and proceed north to Lawson Road, west on Lawson Road and then over the Highland Creek overpass to Kingston Road. The route will continue along Old Kingston Road to Watson Road. The parade route closures will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

THE TASTE OF LITTLE ITALY

Mid-June weekend a celebration of Italian food, music and patio life
June 17th to June 19th

College Street, Toronto – Italian villages celebrate life in the piazza, or town square, with music, food, a little vino and a lot of fun. From Friday, June 17 through Sunday, June 19, Toronto lives its own piazza experience, with the thirteenth annual “Taste of Little Italy”.

College Street, from Bathurst to Shaw, becomes a pedestrian square for the weekend, lined by local restaurants sampling their very best fare, music on every corner, shopping and exploring, and some of the best people watching in the city. Over 40 restaurants will offer expanded patios.

The Taste of Little Italy is a salute to everything that makes this neighbourhood, and really the whole City of Toronto, such a great place to live,” said Lenny Lombardi, President of CHIN Radio and Chair of Little Italy’s business improvement association. “Little Italy is an exciting area in which to live and to visit. Our retailers and restaurants are operated by families who delight in getting to know their customers. Drop in over the weekend, and you’ll see why people love this neighbourhood. And then you’ll come back, again and again.”

During the Taste of Little Italy, 21 bands, choirs and other acts will perform from street corners and stages stretching the length of College from Bathurst to Shaw.

Some 45 College Street restaurants will be sampling the pride of their kitchens, serving up pasta specialties, meats, seafood, desserts and other treats, all for between $1 and $5.

Restaurant patios will offer Sambuca Ramozzotti, and ice cold Coca Cola.

MuchMusic Video Awards

“The MuchMusic Video Awards (also known as (the) MMVA or MMVAs) are annual awards presented by the Canadian music video channel MuchMusic to honour the year’s best music videos.

In their modern form, the awards ceremony is not held in a conventional theatre, but instead as a large street party incorporating the MuchMusic World Headquarters, its parking lot, and parts of Queen Street West in downtown Toronto, Ontario. There are no hosts or announcers in the traditional awards-show fashion; instead, the MuchMusic VJs are an integral part of the festivities, introducing (and interviewing) the awards’ presenters and winners throughout the show.”

There will be a series of road closures in the area bounded by Richmond Street in the south, Queen Street in the north, Simcoe Street in the east and Peter Street in the west from Sunday, June 19 at 4 p.m. to Monday, June 20 at 3 a.m.

Weekend events with road closures in Toronto

Five special events in Toronto this weekend will involve road closures. All residents and visitors are encouraged to come out and enjoy the events.

Festivals and events are important to the city, injecting hundreds of millions of dollars annually into Toronto’s economy, and they are enjoyed each year by local residents. Businesses in the affected areas are open to pedestrian traffic but some roads will be closed to motorists.

In addition to these events, a significant amount of road work is taking place in the city. People are encouraged to take public transit as a greener, faster and more affordable way of getting to their destinations. If you need to drive in these event areas, be patient and allow extra time to get to and from your destination. Highland Creek Heritage Festival and Parade
Saturday closure:
