Around the world in many cities, there are Bike to Work Days, Weeks and Months.
Our Ontario Bike to Work Day will start next Monday.
On Monday, May 30, 2011, municipalities across Ontario are coordinating events to celebrate a Greater-Toronto-Area-wide Bike to Work Day.
Join in by riding in Toronto’s Group Commute to City Hall and get your FREE Bike t-shirt and a FREE hot pancake breakfast while supplies last.
The Group Commute is the event that starts it all.
Here is the general itinerary of the Bike to Work ride:
- The Bike to Work ride leaves from various start locations/points at 7:00 am from across the City and
- meets at Yonge and Bloor for 7:30 am.
- From there the ride heads down to Yonge street to
- Nathan Philips Square for 8:00 am to enjoy a complimentary pancake breakfast and other festivities.
June is Bike Month and the “annual Group Commute with FREE pancake breakfast is the marquee event of Bike Month.”
The Group Commute also marks the beginning of Toronto’s Bike Month events. These events are community-driven and take place City-wide.

Detailed Itinerary of Ride Your Bike to Work Day and CITY EVENTS
Toronto Group Commute and Launch Event
Monday May 30, 7am-9:30am
- Commuters from around the city meet to ride together from start locations/points and converge at Yonge and Bloor for 7:30am.
- City organized start locations/points are staffed with Ride Your Bike to Work co-ordinators, Emergency Medical Services workers, and a Police escort.
- Community start locations/points are organized by cyclists from the neighbourhood of the community start location/points.
- Community start locations/points connect with the ride en route to Yonge and Bloor and Nathan Phillips Square.
- All Group Commute participants will receive a FREE Bike Month t-shirt, as well as a complimentary pancake breakfast upon their arrival at Nathan Phillips Square – City Hall (while supplies last).
- Breakfast will include hot pancakes, maple syrup, fruit, croissants and coffee.

- 7am Bloor and High Park
- 7am Yonge and Lawrence
- 7am Danforth and Woodbine
7:30am Bloor and Yonge
8am Arrive at City Hall

- 6:30am Humber River Waterfront Trail Bridge
- 7am Wilson Ave. and Avenue Rd. (at Cricket Club)
- 7am Don Mills and Lawrence.
- 7:15am Wychwood Barns
- 7:20am Bloor St. and Brunswick Ave.
- 7:20am Danforth Ave. and Chester Ave.
- 7:30am Kew Gardens (south end)
- 7:30am Dundas St. E. and Kingston Rd.

The City of Toronto is starting to consider options for physically separated bike lanes (also known as “Cycle Tracks”) in the downtown area as shown here:
“You can help inform our research by contributing to the SteetsWiki Cycle Tracks web pages.
