To recognize the contributions of dedicated workers in public works and infrastructure, Ontario in Canada has declared the week of May 15 to 21, 2011, to be National Public Works Week for the province.
A big Thank-You to these wonderful workers for their great works in areas of public necessities which include:
- Roads, bridges and highways that move families and goods
- Pipes that deliver safe drinking water
- Transit systems that move people within and between communities
- Schools, colleges and universities where Ontario students learn and grow
- Broadband internet towers that connect us to the world
- Parks, recreation centres and ice rinks where families get active.
Let’s celebrate National Public Works Week for the following positive results due to investment in public works and infrastructure projects:
- Ontario has invested $62 billion in infrastructure since 2003, creating or supporting over 80,000 jobs on average per year.
- Over the next three years, the province plans to invest more than $35 billion in infrastructure, creating and supporting over 300,000 jobs.

McGuinty Government Recognizes Contributions Of Public Works Workers
May 15 to 21, 2011 has been declared National Public Works Week in Ontario.
The week recognizes the dedicated men and women who contribute to public works and infrastructure across the province. It also provides an opportunity to highlight the essential role that public works plays in building vibrant communities and strong, local economies.
Examples of public works and infrastructure in Ontario communities include:
- Roads, bridges and highways that move families and goods
- Pipes that deliver safe drinking water
- Transit systems that move people within and between communities
- Schools, colleges and universities where Ontario students learn and grow
- Broadband internet towers that connect us to the world
- Parks, recreation centres and ice rinks where families get active.
Investing in Ontario’s roads, highways, transit, hospitals and schools is part of the government’s plan to create jobs, grow local economies and ensure the province remains strong and competitive for years to come.
